Here is a last minute suggestion for Mother’s Day. My wife (the artist) discovered The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and loved it, but wasn’t sure I would be as enthusiastic. Turns out I am just as big a fan. Seemingly a ‘chic book’ from the blurb, it is also…fascinating history, great characters, and wonderful writing.
But wait, there’s more: it is an ‘epistolary novel‘, made up of a series of letters. OMG. Letters, what people used to do before email and blogs (sic)!
January, 1946: London is emerging from the shadow of the Second World War, and writer Juliet Ashton is looking for her next book subject. Who could imagine that she would find it in a letter from a man she’s never met, Dawsey Adams, a native of the island of Guernsey, who has come across her name in a book?
Here is an Amazon link, but since it’s the last minute I suggest you try your local bookstore. I purchased a copy at my local COSTCO just a few days ago as (guess what) another last minute gift.
